Our History

Johor Cultural And Sports Club (JCSC), formerly known as The Johore Civil Service Club) was formed in early 1920, stand tall amongst her peers, to be the oldest in great Johor. Pursuant to lease entered with the Government of the State of Johore, on 12th January 1930, JCSC was allowed to occupy our previous Club House at 623, Jalan Kolonel Wilson and a part of the surrounding fields, together measuring 4 acres. The generosity of the State Government did not end here. The Government also agreed to maintain the Club House and the adjoining playing fields during the period of Lease. The facade of the building has, therefore, remained the same since then.

Upon the expiry of the renewed lease with the State Government in January 1984, it was at the sole discretion of the Government of the day and YAB Dato’ Chief Minister, to allow us to remain at the above locality till May 2011. However, only through the good offices of YAB Dato’ Chief Minister, the State Government has given the Club a piece of land measuring 2.2 acres close to the Johor Golf and Country Club. Up until late 60’s, JCSC was the premier Club, and till to-date remains the oldest Club in the State of Johor, with it’s far and wide Affiliations, that reads like a ‘Who’s Who!’. In 1984, the name of the Club was changed from Johore Civil Service Club to Johor Cultural and Sports Club, thus reflecting the cross-section of Society, Government, and Private Sectors.

‘Moving Forward’, the construction of the new building was completed in October 2013. Set in lush green, we are now looking at a far better and picturesque Club. You will be spoilt with a ‘scenic atmosphere’ for starters. Sip your chilled beverages on either the terrace, bar or one of the food and beverages outlets overlooking a clear lake. The ‘tide and atmosphere’ could not be better. with ample parking, sports and recreational facilities, including swimming pool, sauna, gym, indoor games room, karaoke, food and beverages outlets to choose from, and rooms for meetings, office, and library, JCSC is poised to be the best, minus golfing, in Iskandar Malaysia.

This will further compliment with some of the reputable Affiliated Clubs, out-of-State and Overseas! To top it all, being the birthplace of Hash House Harriers in the World, our ‘place on the map’ will be further established, given the new Club’s ‘outlook and facilities’!

JCSC will then be a household name for her members, to be really proud of.
